Northern Cape police have recovered a body of a 24-year-old man accused of allegedly murdering his 8-year-old neighbour. Police say the deceased ran into the Orange river after the body of his neighbour was found at his home with a wound to her throat. His body was found after a four-day search around Sandrift near Alexander Bay. Members of the public with more information about the incident are encouraged to alert the police.

SIU TO CONCLUDE CORRUPTION INVESTIGATION IN HEALTH DEPARTMENT

SIU says they have already reached some conclusions on aspects of the investigations against Dr Zweli Mkhize, but cannot disclose these at this stage. The head of the Special Investigating Unit Advocate Andy Mothibi says the investigation into allegations of corruption in the Health Ministry is about to be concluded. METER TAXI DRIVER'S KILLER NABBED

Man who killed a meter-taxi driver nabbed with illegal firearm  A multi-disciplinary operation was held yesterday in the Pietermaritzburg and surrounding areas.    The operation resulted in the arrest of a 35-year-old man who was wanted for charges of murder and carjacking. During his arrest, the suspect was found in possession of an illegal firearm with 17 rounds of ammunition. The recovered firearm will be subjected to ballistic testing. The suspect appeared before the Pietermaritzburg Magistrates’ Court today.  It is alleged that on 29 April 2021 at 02:55, a meter taxi driver was robbed of his vehicle whilst he was Hanniville in the Mountain Rise policing precinct. The victim was also shot multiple times on the body and was declared dead at the scene. The deceased was identified as Nkululeko Freedom Jili (50). MINING GIANT GENERAL MANAGER GUNNED DOWN

DURBAN - Police in KwaZulu-Natal have confirmed the killing of a general manager for operational services at Richards Bay Minerals, owned by mining giant Rio Tinto. Nico Swart was shot and killed on his way to work on Monday morning, with more than 20 high-caliber bullets fired into his vehicle. In a statement, Rio Tinto said that it was cooperating with the police in its investigation. The police’s Thembeka Mbele said that they were still trying to find the motive behind the murder of Swart. "We can confirm the shooting in Meerensee, Richards Bay. it is alleged that at about 6:45 this morning, the deceased was shot while driving in his car on his way to work at Corner of Dune and Kolstert Road by three unknown men who were on foot. COUPLE APPEARS FOR ALLEGED DRUG DEALING

  EASTERN CAPE – Basil Van Heerden (61) and his wife Brenda van Heerden (62) appeared in East London Magistrate court on several alleged charges of dealing in drugs on Monday 24 May 2021. The Hawks’ Serious Organised Crime Investigation team in East London, in conjunction with Mdantsane Crime Intelligence (CI) executed an operation in response to information received regarding suspects alleged to be selling dagga to members of the community from their residence, situated in Chislehurst Cambridge area in East London. The resultant search was conducted in their residence on 21 May 2021 where 1kg of dagga was found already for selling purposes. This follows three alleged purchases of dagga that were successfully made from the two suspects at their residence between 16 April 2021 and 21 May 2021.  The uncovered drugs were seized for further investigation and this culminated in the arrest and subsequent court appearance. R503 ROAD RE-OPENED AFTER POLICE INTERVENTION

  Police in the North West have had their hands full since Monday morning, dispersing residents who had blockaded some roads leading into Mafikeng. The R503 road linking Mahikeng and Lichtenburg and N18 linking Mahikeng and Vryburg were earlier barricaded with various objects. The residents are protesting against lack of service delivery, unemployment, poverty, the neglect of tourism attractions in Mahikeng, and the selling of properties built during the Bophuthatswana governance which include residential and commercial properties. Provincial commissioner condemns vigilantism following the torching of a house and motor vehicle The Provincial Commissioner of police in Limpopo Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe has strongly condemned the torching of a house and a motor vehicle belonging to a 47-year-old man by community members at Tshakhuma, Dzananwa village. This  after they accused him of being responsible for the murder of a 48 man who was reported missing last month and whose decomposed body was found next to a Ntabeni plantation on Wednesday 19 May 2021. Ndishavhelafhi Pandelani from Tshakhuma, Lundani village, was reported missing at Levubu police station on 18 April 2021. His decomposed body was found and the police opened an Inquest docket for investigations. The local community allegedly started accusing the complainant and went on the rampage, torching his house and motor vehicle this evening at about 18h00. Members of the Public Order Police have been deployed in the area to quell the violence.
