COOKING OIL TO REMAIN ON HIGH PRICE


JOHANNESBURG - Cooking oil prices will remain high at least until the end of the year.

Sunflower oil has risen by 60 percent since January last year due to poor harvests of oil-producing crops such as sunflower, soya, and canola last year.

Its added pressure on consumers who use oil as a staple in their food preparation.

The latest consumer price figures show oil and fats rose by more than 16% year on year from April last year to April this year.
South Africa does not produce enough vegetable oil to be able to meet local demand and imports most of its needs from Europe.
