29-year-old Danie Duvenhage and his father Andrew (52) were shot during an alleged altercation with a taxi driver at a filling station along the N1 in Bandelierkop, says the police.
An apparent road rage incident has claimed the lives of 29-year-old Danie Duvenhage and his father Andrew (52). The incident happened at a filling station along the N1 north at Bandelierkop on Friday, 28 May and according to Police Spokesperson, Brig Motlafela Mojapelo a 33-year-old man has been arrested and charged with two counts of murder.

According to police reports the dispute between the father and son, and a 33-year-old taxi driver started while all three were travelling along the N1 from Louis Trichardt direction Polokwane. “At Bandelierkop the taxi driver turned off the highway into a filling station and was followed by the two males.”

It is alleged that while Danie and his father were at the filling station a fight broke out and the taxi driver produced a gun and shot them, Mojapleo explained.

“The son died instantly, while his father was critically injured and died on arrival at Makhado memorial hospital.”

Mojapelo said the taxi driver was arrested and is currently in hospital under police guard after he accidentally shot himself during the alleged fight at the filling station.

Investigations revealed that the accused used a unlicensed firearm during the incident. “The firearm has been confiscated for ballistic examination,” he added.

Provincial Police Commissioner, Lt Genl Thembi Hadebe condemned this incident and has ordered a full investigation into the firearm that was used, its owner and circumstances that led to the shooting.
