KURUMAN AUTHOR PUBLISH HIS FIRST BOOK IN SETSWANA - 2021



Boitumelo Mokolopeng affectionately known as Maxwell, hails from Northern Cape in Kuruman. His love for poetry started at the age of 13 years while still in primary. Recently he just published a book titled “Re a kubeletsa”, which translates as a call to seek spiritual intervention.

This book was made possible and published by National Library of South Africa and launched on Saturday, 29 May 2021, at Eldorado Lodge, Kuruman – Northern Cape. The author seeks to invite the healing power of our forefathers to guide and protect our communities. With this body of work, the author endeavours to raise cultural consciousness and promote indigenous knowledge by reflecting on mythologies, idioms, and proverbs. The book is a culmination of the work that he’s done as a writer and a performer in the past, including his life experience as a child growing up in the village. In this book, he reflects on African rituals, cultural beliefs, Africanism and a celebration for humanity.

Boitumelo is a proud Motswana who is passionate about his mother tongue. He’s written a number of theatre plays including Sebikwa, Paseka, Dawn, and Homecoming just to mention few. Boitumelo is a multifaceted individual who graduated in Speech and Drama. In 2010 he was awarded the best director at Tshwane University of Technology. He is a qualified actor, writer and theatre director. and worked with the youth in various spaces using theatre as a tool to address social issues. 

In 2019, post his master’s degree he was awarded Best Researcher for social change by the University of Witwatersrand. Recently he practiced as a Drama therapist intern in various spaces providing psychological intervention. Boitumelo is passionate about the youth and advocate for the rights and protection of young men who are in distress. Currently he is working at the University of Kwazulu Natal as lecturer under Language and Arts, while at the same time pursuing his PhD in Education with the University of Witwatersrand. 
The author wishes to see his book being used in schools as part of the curriculum.
