POLICE SERGEANTS APPEAR IN COURT FOR ALLEGEDLY ARRANGING EXCHANGE OF MONEY NOT TO REGISTER RAPE CASE

POLOKWANE - Two police Sergeants aged 40 and 48 have on Monday 14 June 2021 appeared in Polokwane magistrate's court facing charges of corruption and defeating the ends of justice. This after they allegedly demanded money from the suspect’s mother to pay the victim’s mother for them not to register the rape case. The victim is 09 years old and the suspect aged 23 and are neighbours.

It is reported that on 28 May 2021, the two suspects were posted together when they called the mother of the suspect in a rape case to pay R8000-00 in cash to the victim's mother in exchange for the rape case not to be registered.

The two members allegedly took the victim's mother from her house and drove to the residence of the suspect where they found his mother. She then gave the mother of the victim R8000.00 in cash and afterwards the two police officers received an amount of R1000.00 to share between themselves.

Afterwards, the suspects returned to the Police station and on arrival they made an OB entry indicating that the victim's mother does not wish to continue with the rape case and then destroyed the unregistered case docket.

The suspects were arrested in Louis Trichardt by the Limpopo Provincial Anti-Corruption Unit yesterday on Sunday 13 June 2021. The members are stationed at Tshilwavhusiku Police station in the Vhembe District. The rape case has since been reopened and the 23 year old suspect arrested.

The Provincial Commissioner of Police in Limpopo Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe has strongly condemned the actions of these members and has asserted that the law must ruthlessly be applied to send a clear message that corruption will not be tolerated.

The suspects, identified as Netshiendeulu Mudzhiwa Adolphus (40) and Mafelatshuma Allen Makananisa (48) appeared in Polokwane Organised crimes court and were granted R2000.00 bail. Their case was postponed to 28 June 2021 for further police investigations.
