LONG SERVING RIFLEMAN HONOURED WITH A RANK OF A SERGEANT

Chief of the SA Army bestows a sergeant's rank on long serving Rifleman.

The Chief of the Army, Lieutenant General Lawrence Mbatha honoured Rifleman Isaac Mudau for his 41-year longstanding and selfless service to the country with the rank of Sergeant.
In a gesture that sought to redress the injustice of having Rifleman Mudau serve for over four decades in uniform without a rank to show for it, the Military Command Council approved the SA Army's recommendation to have Rifleman Mudau to promoted to the rank of Sergeant with effect from 01 April 2021.
Lieutenant General Mbatha not only honoured Sergeant Mudau, but he also expressed his sincere apology for the injustice meted against this long serving soldier and patriot. He cautioned that no South African National Defence Force member should be made to experience an ordeal as demoralising as that undergone by Sergeant Mudau. "Never again shall it happen that those loyally serving this country are made to reach a low-level that you have reached," Lieutenant General Mbatha said.
He further extended words of appreciation to Sergeant Mudau's family. In a symbol of respect for the pain and sacrifices that Sergeant Mudau has endured over the years, the Chief of the SA Army named the newly refurbished SA Army Headquarters Assembly Hall in honour of Sergeant Modau. For his perseverance and indomitable spirit, despite bearing the same rank for over 4 decades, the hall will from from 29 November 2021 carry his name and be called Sergeant Isaac Mudau Assembly Hall, to serve as a reminder that no one should ever experience what this good soldier had experienced.
