PUBLIC ORDER POLICE DISCOVERS FIREARMS

WESTERN CAPE - To ensure a safer environment for the community, Public Order Policing members were deployed in areas of concern today to clamp down on lawlessness. These deployments were rewarded with the arrest of suspects who were caught in possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition.
This morning, a 31-year-old man was arrested in Town 2 Khayelitsha after he was found in possession of an unlicensed 6.35 pistol without a serial number. Also in Town 2, another suspect was arrested in possession of a variety of ammunition without a license.
While on foot patrol in Harare, the members seized a homemade firearm and one round of ammunition that were found abandoned.

In Lingelethu West, a 41-year-old man was arrested in possession of an unlicensed 38 Special revolver and ammunition, while a 24-year-old man was arrested in possession of an imitation firearm, SANDF uniform and ammunition.

Once charged, the suspects are all expected to make their court appearances in Khayelitsha to face the charges against them.
