HIGH CALIBRE RIFLE RECOVERED

Police in Gauteng continues to stamp the authority of the State and recovers an AK47 assault rifle during high speed car chase

On Wednesday, 12 January 2022 police in Gauteng apprehended three suspects and recovered a hijacked vehicle, unlicensed firearms, ammunition and a jamming device during two separate intelligence-driven operations in the province.

Police in Tshwane District operationalised information and pounced on three suspects, aged between 34 and 44-years-old in Rosslyn yesterday. The suspects' vehicle was successfully intercepted by the SAPS members and a search was conducted.

The search led the police to recover an unlicensed firearm with the serial number filed off, ammunition and a jamming device. Further investigation revealed that the suspects' vehicle is positively linked to a hijacking case and the vehicle was impounded.

On another incident, members of SAPS Dawn Park were on a routine Crime Prevention patrol when they noticed a suspicious looking vehicle which sped off when the police approached it.
Gauteng Highway Patrol together with EMPD and JMPD K9 were alerted and a car chase continued onto the R103 highway along Dawn Park. The suspect dropped a red bag out of his vehicle's window and it was discovered to be an AK47 assault rifle. The suspect managed to evade arrest.

Anyone that has information that can assist with the investigation is urged to contact their nearest police station, Crime Stop on 08600 10111 or alternatively leave an anonymous tip-off on the MySAPS App.
