CONVICTED FOR CORRUPTION

                                      KWAZULU-NATAL – The Port Shepstone Magistrates’ Court convicted and sentenced Mthokozisi Mhlongo (28) for corruption on 24 May 2021.  In June 2018, Mhlongo attempted to entice a SAPS recruitment official at a police station in Port Shepstone in order to be recruited into SAPS without following proper procedures and offered to pay R10 000 to the official. The incident was reported to the Hawks in Port Shepstone and a sting operation was conducted which led to his arrest. R10 000 cash that he attempted to use was recovered and has been forfeited to the State.    He was fined a R10 000 or 10 months imprisonment in default of payment and further four years imprisonment which is wholly suspended for five years.

MAN ARRESTED FOR DEALING IN DRUGS

EASTERN CAPE - A 32-year-old alleged drug suspect was arrested by SAPS Butterworth members while conducting operations in the CBD and Skiti informal settlement.  Stop and searches and the searching of drug posts formed part of the operations. A shack in Skiti informal settlement was searched and 17 mandrax tablets, 6 tik straws and several pieces of mandrax tablets were found.  The suspect was arrested and detained for possession of drugs. He is expected to appear in court today, 25/05.

STATE OF EMERGENCY DECLARED AS TRIBES CLASHES

The report says  clashes broke out at some areas in the city of Port Sudan. Sudan declared a state of emergency and imposed a night curfew in some parts of the coastal Red Sea state on Monday, after tribal violence that killed at least five people, a statement and state media said. The statement by the state governor media office gave no details of the clashes and did not mention casualties. However, state news agency Suna quoted a local medical official as saying the clashes left at least five people killed and 13 wounded. The report said the clashes broke out at some areas in the city of Port Sudan. Red Sea state, in eastern Sudan, has a history of deadly clashes between the Beni Amer and Nuba, even after leaders from the two tribes signed a peace agreement to stem the violence in 2019.  

FINANCIAL DEMANDS REJECTED BY JUDGE

Judge slams wife’s high financial demands The financial demands of a mother of two children on her estranged husband, which included R2 600 a month for new clothes, did not sit well with a Mpumalanga High Court judge. The judge would have none of the applicant’s demands because she had a stable job and earned a decent income. While the applicant’s lawyer argued that his client’s demand for R2 600 a month for clothing was not unreasonable, the judge had put her foot down. “I do not agree with that notion and I find it to be unreasonable and untrue that the applicant is spending R2 600 a month on clothing,” the judge said. The applicant and her husband are divorcing but she, in the meantime, is demanding the bulk of his salary to maintain herself and their two children. She is staying with the children in the matrimonial home. The woman told the judge that her monthly expenses were  R31 407.70. She indicated that every month she had a shortfall of R15 134.26. A POLICE STATION COMMANDER GUNNED DOWN

KwaZulu-Natal police have confirmed the killing of a local station commander. It is believed that Colonel Jabulani Ndawonde from the Ndwedwe police station, north of Durban, was gunned down at the Bhamshela Taxi Rank on his way home on Monday night. Police spokesperson Thembeka Mbhele says it is also believed that Ndawonde was driving a state owned vehicle when he was overtaken by another vehicle and shot at. He died on the scene

POLICE REQUEST ASSISTANCE IN RAPE INVESTIGATION

Durban Central Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit is appealing to the community for assistance in solving a case of rape they are investigating. It is alleged that on 15 April 2021 at 08:45, a 36-year-old woman was walking in Umhlanga area looking for a certain school after she was informed about a vacancy available in one of the schools. She requested for directions of the said school to an unknown man who offered to assist her. They walked to the direction of the school and they had to cross the bridge and a bush in order to enter the school. While they were walking the man assaulted her on the neck, she fought back but was overpowered. She was raped and robbed of her two cellphones and a handbag. The suspect fled the scene on foot. Charges of rape and robbery were opened at Durban North police station for investigation. The police believes the man in the attached identikit will assist in solving the rape case.
